YONKERS (PIX11) — A high school basketball coach in Yonkers has received strong messages of support after coming out as a gay man.

Anthony Nicodemo has been the coach of the Blue Devils at Saunders High School for five seasons.

Newsday says he came out to his team at a meeting to start summer workouts.

He is believed to be the first openly gay boys high basketball coach in New York.

He tweeted, “The support of my family, peers, players and media have been awesome!”
