(PIX11) — The New York Yankees have offered to pay for the education of the sons of Officer Rafael Ramos, the New York Daily News reported.
The foundation started by late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner provides for the education of children of New York City police officers, firefighters and Port Authority employees who died in the line of duty.
The Yankee Silver Shield Foundation will foot the bill for 13-year-old Jaden Ramos, as well as Ramos’ older son, who is already in college. Steinbrenner started his foundation in 1982 after an NYPD officer died in the line of duty, leaving a wife and four children behind.
Rafael Ramos was killed alongside Officer Wenjian Liu when they were shot execution-style while sitting in their car outside 98 Tompkins Ave. in Bedford-Stuyveant Saturday afternoon.
Jaden posted a moving tribute to his father on his Facebook page after initially writing, “Today is the worst day of my life.”
On Dec. 9, Jaden posted an appreciative photo collage wishing his father a happy 40th birthday, saying “…you are always there for me, even when it’s almost impossible.”
