A newlywed couple’s happiest day of their lives was nearly ruined when a wedding guest tried to steal their gifts.

Omar Santiago, 18, attended the Larry and Joanna Williamson’s wedding reception at the West Sayville Country Club late Saturday night and walked away with a white box containing gifts of money for the couple.

A maître d’ in the coat room noticed the teen making off with the valuable box and alerted the bride, who did not initially recognize Santiago.

The teen, according to Suffolk County police, ran into the men’s room, where he stuffed the envelopes into this clothes.  He bolted from the men’s room and out the door of the catering venue.

Several other wedding guests chased Santiago down and held him until police arrived.  All the gifts were recovered by police.

Santiago, a resident of Irvington, New Jersey, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and will be arraigned Monday at the First District Court in Central Islip.

West Sayville Country Club is located at 200 Montauk Highway.
