Police are looking for a violent mugger who was caught on surveillance video punching and robbing a man inside a Times Square subway station.

The incident took place just after 12 a.m. on Monday on the mezzanine level inside the station.  The suspect is seen chatting with the victim briefly while the man, 35, looks down at what may be his phone.  Without warning, the mugger pulls back his fist and hits the man in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The thief snatched his victim’s cell phone and ran onto the 1 train platform.

The suspect is described as a black male around 30 years old, 6’3″, with dark skin and Afro.  He was last seen wearing sagging dark pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
