NEW YORK (PIX11) — Jaywalkers beware. Police are handing out a lot more tickets.

The New York Times reports that police have handed nearly 800% more jaywalking tickets compared to this time last year.

215 tickets were handed out between Jan. 1 and Feb. 9. Meanwhile, tickets for moving violations dropped off slightly.

The Mayor insists ticketing pedestrians is not Vision Zero’s top priority.

The plan is aimed at eliminating deadly car accidents involving pedestrians.
