First Lady Michelle Obama has been stepping up her efforts to help curb the obesity epidemic in our nation’s youth. Her latest efforts concern portion control and supporting the USDA’s MyPlate program, which details how much fruit, vegetables, protein and grains should be on a person’s plate at each meal.  Going hand-and-hand with the food plate is portion control and not overeating.

Rachel Berman, a registered dietitian and Director of Nutrition for, a free health and wellness website that offers diet and nutrition information to more than 5 million members worldwide. Rachel showcased what should be on a person’s plate at each meal, created an infographic last year that illustrates healthy portion sizes and compares them to real-life objects, making portion sizing easy and more memorable.
