SAN DIEGO (PIX11) — Twenty years after her murder, Selena will go on tour once again — this time as a hologram.

Acrovirt, LLC announced the launch of Selena The One, a walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of the iconic singer, on her Facebook page. Some fans were excited. Others begged to let the singer rest in peace.

Selena was only 23 years old when the president of her fan club shot her to death in a Texas motel room. Her death made international headlines, and her funeral drew 60,000 mourners.

Acrovirt is working in collaboration with Selena’s immediate family and cutting-edge scientists to create the hologram. “Selena The One” will release new songs and videos, will collaborate with current hit artists, and aims to go on tour in 2018.

The San Diego Latino Film Festival has agreed to support the project.

“We are ecstatic to be a partner with Acrovirt on this groundbreaking project that represents the convergence of music, legacy, and the latest technology,” Director Phil Lorenzo said. “This is an extraordinary effort to bring back one of the greatest voices in Latino music history.” The Festival has worked with Acrovirt and will continue to work with Acrovirt as the project and the documentary continue to evolve.”
