NEW YORK — NASA is giving space exploration enthusiasts a chance to view one of the world’s most stunning light shows from a new point of view.
On Sunday NASA posted a video to YouTube showing the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, from space. The video is part of NASA’s newest video initiative, NASA TV UHD, bringing ultra-high definition videos of space exploration to the masses.
The video shows time-lapses shot from the International Space Station and shows the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis.
The phenomena occur when “electrically charged protons and electrons in the Earth’s magnetic field collide with neutral atoms in the upper atmosphere,” the video description says.
NASA has uploaded photos and videos in the past from the International Space Station.
Astronaut Scott Kelly tweeted an incredible photo over Hurricane Patricia in Oct. 2015.
