LOS ANGELES (PIX11) – The bodies of rapper Earl Hayes and VH1 star Stephanie Moseley were discovered inside a swank Los Angeles apartment after an apparent murder-suicide, KTLA reported Monday.
A SWAT team responded to the complex inside The Grove Monday morning after someone heard multiple gunshots and a woman screaming, according to police.
Officers decided to enter the unit where the caller reported the shots coming from after speaking with the caller, and when they tried to open the door to a rear bedroom they heard two more gunshots, police said.
Inside they found Hayes, a 34-year-old rapper and associate of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., and his wife, 30-year-old Stephanie Moseley, a dancer who starred in the VH1 drama about NBA cheerleaders “Hit the Floor.”
The bodies were identified by Burrel Wilks, who said he was the life coach and friend of Earl Hayes. Hayes said that the pair had been together for a long time and were going through a difficult breakup.
“No one seen this coming — because, again, Hayes is not a violent guy,” Wilkes told KTLA.
Police suspect Hayes took his own life after fatally shooting Moseley; the investigation is ongoing.
VH1 mourned Moseley’s death, saying that the network was “incredibly saddened to hear the news,” and released the following statement:
“VH1 and the the entire ‘Hit the Floor’ family send our thoughts and condolences to her family and friends in this difficult time.”
Moseley’s friend and fellow model Eva Marcille Pigford said she knew the couple had been going through difficult times, and added that “no situation’s perfect.” However, Pigford said she never would have guessed their issues could have led to this.
“Stephanie was an absolute angel. She really was . . . She brought so many people into my life. She’s connected so many people,” Pigford said.
