NEW YORK (PIX11) — This year’s FDNY Calendar of Heroes, notorious for hard-bodied firefighters gracing its laminated pages, features a female firefighter for the first time in its history.

An 11-year veteran of the FDNY and one of just 41 female firefighters in the department, Danae Mines made it into the calendar after first being told the honor was reserved solely for her male colleagues.

“Besides raising money for the FDNY Foundation and representing for the women, I wanted other females to see me and inspire them to do this job,” Mines said.

Mines is dressed modestly compared to her counterparts, donning a grey t-shirt, uniform pants and suspenders.

The calendars are $15.95 each with all proceeds going to the FDNY Foundation, which promotes fire safety education for residents and provides equipment and training for firefighters.

New York’s bravest in the 2015 calendar are:

  • Joseph Conforti (Cover)
  • Anthony Montanez (January)
  • Chris Gonzalez (February)
  • Danae Mines (March)

  • Sal DePaola (July)
  • Dellon Morgan (August)
  • Douglas Chiz (September)
