Every year at Thanksgiving, PIX 11 News Closeup features its “Giving Thanks” program, highlighting people whose lives took a major turn as a result of unique circumstances.

This week’s guests are:  Alan Newton, who served 22 years for a crime he did not commit, and was freed through DNA evidence in 2006 with the help of the Innocence Project; Allison Gilbert, an author and married mother of two, who made the courageous decision to have a double mastectomy to prevent her chances of getting breast cancer as  indicated by a specific gene she has; and, Purple Heart recipient, U.S. Army Sergeant Sam Angert,  who was severely wounded while serving in Iraq and made an amazing recovery.
