OWASSO, Okla. — An Oklahoma couple is facing charges in what nurses told police is the worst case of child abuse they had ever seen, CNN reported Monday.
Kevin Fowler and Aislyn Miller’s two infant children are being treated in an area emergency room due to a slew of injuries, police told CNN.
The couple was arrested over the weekend when hospital staff contacted authorities. CNN reports both face child abuse charges.
The infants were described as appearing extremely skinny, and suffering from rashes and bed sores, officials told CNN.
Feces was found in one of the baby’s ear, CNN reports.
The disturbing case also included the discovery of a maggot, which crawled from one of the genital area of one of the infants, a tearful nurse told local TV station KTUL.
Nurses told police it was the “worst case of child abuse” they had ever seen, multiple stations report.
When asked about the babies’ condition, the couple allegedly told police they are new parents and not used to taking care of children, KTUL reports.
Additionally, KTUL reported the parents said the infants do not have health insurance and they cannot afford medical bills so the babies had not seen a doctor since birth.
One of the children is a female, but additional descriptions, including ages, was not provided to CNN.
