SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn — A New York City police officer has been found guilty of molesting a girl repeatedly over the course of three years, starting when she was just 10 years old, the Brooklyn DA announced Wednesday.
Jacob Sabbagh, 34, of Midwood, Brooklyn, was convicted of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child.
“This is a disturbing case where a young child was sexually abused and repeatedly violated by a family friend—now a police officer—whom she should have been able to trust,” Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said. “The victim had the courage to speak out against the abuser and we will now see that he is punished.”
The alleged abuse began in June 2005 and stopped in March 2008, according to an indictment.
According to trial testimony, Sabbagh was a family friend of the child and would sleep over at her home in Flatbush, Brooklyn, monthly. The investigation revealed that on each of these visits, between June 2005 and March 2008, Sabbagh repeatedly molested the girl, touching her breasts, vagina and buttock.
He’s also accused of having sex with the girl.
The abuse began when the victim was 10 and stopped when she turned 13. The victim came forward about the abuse at age 16.
Sabbagh faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced on Sept. 7, 2016.
