NEW YORK (PIX11) — A blizzard named “Nemo” is bearing down on the tri-state area.

Well, Nemo is what The Weather Channel is calling it anyway, taking a page from the National Hurricane Center’s tradition of naming  hurricanes and tropical storms.

And while their reporters (and many others, it seems) may be referring to it by name, other meteorologists refuse.

“I’m not a fan,” said PIX11’s Mr. G said back in November, when a storm named “Brutus” was brewing.  “The only names I’m going to use [come from] the Hurricane Center, they’re there 365 days a year, they’ve earned my respect.”
