KENNER, La. — A 10-year-old found his mother and her boyfriend shot dead in their bedroom early Monday morning.

The 10-year-old heard gunshots before 7 a.m. and went into the upstairs bedroom of their apartment to find his mom, Dawn Ellen Scott, 28, shot dead, Kenner Police told WVUE. The child alerted a neighbor, who contacted police.

Police found Scott’s boyfriend, Raynell Kimbrough, 31, with Scott in the bedroom along with their infant daughter, who was uninjured, police said.

Scott was in bed with her infant when she died, and Kimbrough was found on the floor next to the bed, police said.

Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich told WVUE both Kimbrough and Scott suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

A two-year-old was also in the house at the time of the shooting, police said. All three children were uninjured.

Police didn’t find signs of forced entry or the murder weapon inside the house on the 2100 block of Idaho Avenue.

Police have not established a motive for the murders. However, Raynell Kimbrough’s sister, Shaketha, suggested the double homicide have stemmed from a disagreement with Raynell.

“For them to literally put his girlfriend in the middle of this, a mother of three, I mean why? … If it was a beef with my brother, she had nothing to do with this,” Kimbrough told WVUE.

“This girl was a loving person, a working mother… It was cold-hearted … My brother was a loving person. He may have his ups, and may have had his downs, but he never would do nobody what they did him,” Kimbrough said.
