HARLEM, New York (PIX11) – A man, whose body was found stuffed in an air shaft in Harlem Wednesday, was the victim of homicide, according to cops.

He’s been identified by law enforcement officials as 50-year-old Derrick Sutton.

He lived just a block from where his body was found.

The super of the building called police after seeing the body in the air shaft of the west 119th street building.

It was first thought the man was a burglar who fell while trying to break into an apartment, but an autopsy revealed that he had multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation into how the body ended up there is ongoing.
