Man arrested in taxi hit-and-run that killed woman in Stuyvesant Town

STUYVESANT TOWN, Manhattan — A man has been arrested in the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a woman outside the Stuyvesant Town housing complex early Saturday morning.

Police say John Bangura, 68, of West 165 Street, New York, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

At 3:41 a.m. Saturday, police found 44-year-old Kenya Flores of the Bronx, in the bus lane, struck by an unknown vehicle between E. 16th Street and E. 17th Street on 1st Avenue.

Police say preliminary investigation shows she was laying in the street when she was hit by a taxi that fled the scene.

EMS took the woman to Bellevue Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
