Shoppers looking to cash in on Black Friday deals on the Macy’s and Express websites Friday ran into a problem: a shopping jam.

Visitors to the Macy’s website received a delay message when they visited the site for hours, starting as early as 12 p.m.

“Sorry, shoppers! We’re currently experiencing heavier traffic than normal. To make sure everyone gets the best shopping experience possible, we’re asking new shoppers to wait approximately 10 seconds, and then we’ll refresh your browser and welcome you in.”

By 5 p.m., Macy’s site seemed to be up and running again, but people were still expressing their frustration on Twitter.

“So upset that Im trying to place my order on @Macys website and they’re having technical difficulties,” one shopper wrote on Twitter. “I hope what I want is still there!”

Some people online said they didn’t receive the delay message when they visited the Macy’s website; they received a message about scheduled website maintenance.

Macy’s customer service assured shoppers its “team is working hard to get our site back up and running.” It suggested using a different browser or clearing your browser cache to several users on Twitter.

The Express website is also facing technical difficulties. Shoppers get a “We’re saving your spot in line” message when they visit the website. The company’s site is at capacity. Express says shoppers will be put through to the website as soon as space opens up.

There’s no information available for wait time. At 6 p.m., visitors were still told the site was “at capacity.”

“Went to check out at @express and your whole site crashed now I’m going to miss the 50% off,” one woman wrote on Twitter.
