NEW YORK (PIX11)- One rape victim is on a mission to change the way New York State legally defines it.

In 2011 Lydia Cuomo was attacked by off duty police officer Michael Pena.

Cuomo alongside State Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas sat down with PIX11’s Marvin Scott to share her story and inspire victims to come forward.

Despite Pena’s semen on her clothing, the officer was not found guilty of rape, but of sexual assault.

Working with Simotas, Cuomo has come forward to make it so that all unwanted penetration is considered rape.
