QUEENS, N.Y. — All westbound lanes have reopened to traffic on the Long Island Expressway after the highway was shut down early Thursday due to an overturned truck.

Drivers began traveling through those lanes lane again about 8:30 a.m. The crash happened about 5 a.m. between Exit 27 at Clearview Expressway and Exit 28 at Springfield Boulevard.

One eastbound lane was blocked with emergency vehicles but those vehicles have since been moved and the lane reopened.

Heavy delays are expected to continue in the westbound lanes and drivers are urged to take alternate routes to avoid the jam.

Firefighters freed the 38-year-old driver from the overturned truck. The driver was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
