JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens – The NYPD is still looking for a man who slashed a Jackson Heights woman Sunday morning.
According to police, the 19-year-old woman was out jogging when the suspect ran by and stabbed her with an unknown sharp object.
Police said the attack was unprovoked and the suspect didn’t say anything to the young woman. It happened on on 25th Avenue between 79th and 80th Streets.
Moments after the attack, police said the woman noticed she was bleeding.
Police sources said the cut was about an inch long on her left leg and required 6 stitches. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The attack left neighborhood residents anxious. “I hope it’s not a growing trend. This is scary that things like this still happen,” Hector Garcia said.
Police said the suspect is a Hispanic man in his 20’s. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black shorts.
This is the latest in a string of attacks across the city. At least 12 slashing since the beginning of the year. Many of them have been on the subway.
