JAMAICA, QUEENS (PIX11) — Jamaica High School was placed on a brief lockdown after intruders were believed to be inside the school Thursday afternoon.

Two students entered the building through a side door, Department of Education officials said. An administrator mistakenly thought the students were intruders.

Following procedure, the high school went into a soft lockdown and NYPD was notified. After a search in the building, the two students were found and the lockdown was lifted.

“Safety and security of our students is top priority,” the Department of Education said in a statement.
