ELMHURST (PIX11)– Police arrested a 27-year-old unlicensed driver who allegedly struck and killed a woman and then tried to flee the scene Sunday night in Queens.
Valentine Gonzalez, operating a white 2000 Mitsubishi box truck, was traveling southbound on 76th Street when he made a left turn westbound on Woodside Avenue and hit the victim who was crossing the street around 8:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.
The victim, whose name is pending identification and family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
Gonzalez fled the scene, but was stopped on the corner of 73rd Street and 41st Avenue where he was taken into custody.
He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
