Boiler explosion at Queens shelter injures 2 workers

JAMAICA, Queens (PIX11) — Two people were injured when a boiler exploded in a Queens shelter Thursday evening.

Fire officials say the explosion occurred at 88-83 Van Wyck Expressway just before 8 p.m.

Two people who work at the shelter were injured and are being treated for non life-threatening burns.

No fire was reported in the building but gas has been shut off as a precaution.

It’s unknown what caused the boiler to explode.
