NEW YORK (PIX11) – Massapequa’s little league softball team is back home after making history on the diamond for the Empire State

The team took down North Carolina Sunday to win the state’s first-ever Little League Softball World Series.

Several members of the team and the coaches arrived at LaGuardia Airport on Monday evening.

“I don’t really know how to feel about it honestly or process what we’ve done. I know our town is going to help us realize that,” said 13-year-old Cassie Van Schuler.

New York jumped out to an early lead in the match-up, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another run in the second.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime,” said Assistant Coach Dom Vontana.

North Carolina tried to rally back, but in the end, New York walked away with the 5-2 victory.

A spokesman for the Town of Oyster Bay told PIX11 News there will be a victory parade to celebrate the Massapequa International team in their hometown.

An exact date has yet to be set.
