HILLSDALE, N.J. — They’re wet and pretty much cold turkeys that are wreaking havoc along Esplanade Drive in Hillsdale, New Jersey.
The massive birds – over a dozen of them – surrounded a mail carrier Wednesday who was on her mail route, trapping the worker inside the postal service truck.
“I feel so bad,” a neighbor told PIX11 News. “She’s so nice and sweet.”
According to Hillsdale police, two officers were dispatched to the chaotic scene and managed to scare away the turkeys by simply walking toward them.
Marisa Cefali who’s lived in the neighborhood for nearly 20 years, says the turkey turmoil is just the latest of wild life related incidents on the block.
“They’re everywhere, one them was on my husband’s car and didn’t want to get off,” she said. “They just don’t care but then again they’re not the brightest of animals.”
Residents in the neighborhood blame the wildlife uprising on the lack of wetlands which encompasses a good part of the block which has vanished in recent years due to construction.
“They have nowhere to go, it’s a shame,” Cefali said.
The Hillsdale Police department say while the incident was unusual, the mail carrier was never harmed and continued on with her route.
