LINDEN, N.J. (PIX11) — Four people, including two children, died in an apparent murder-suicide in New Jersey Sunday morning, officials said.
Investigators believe a man shot his wife and their two children before turning the gun on himself inside the home on Chatham Place in Linden, according to Linden Mayor Derek Armstead. The parents and one of the children were pronounced dead at the scene at 9:30 a.m., police said.
The other juvenile was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the mayor said. The minor died hours later.
Neighbors said the family has lived in the area for more than a decade. They said the husband was an electrician and the wife was a beautician. Residents described them as friendly and said they were often seen walking their dog around the neighborhood.
Gov. Phil Murphy said he was closely monitoring the situation in Linden.
“Linden is a strong community and we will support them however possible as they mourn and recover,” he said.
The mayor initially said the juveniles were 14 and 8. Police later said they were both teens. Officials have not yet publicly identified any of the victims.
