Route 17 in Hackensack closed after tractor trailer hits overpass

HACKENSACK, N.J. — A truck clipped the top of an overpass on Route 17 in Hackensack Tuesday afternoon, shutting down part of the roadway.

The incident happened around 2 p.m., at the I-80 exit. The top of the tractor trailer struck the overpass, spilling boxes and various items onto the road.

Route 17 south is closed past Essex Street in Lodi.

It’s unknown when the road will reopen or if it will impact the evening rush hour.

Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes.
