NEWARK — An NJ Transit bus driver has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Fayola Howard, 34, was operating a bus traveling southbound on Stanford Avenue in Newark this past New Year’s Eve when it struck a 55-year-old man. An investigation revealed that the victim was dragged by the bus and he died from his injuries on January 6.

Howard has also been charged with leaving the scene of the accident. At her time of arrest, she was attempting to board a plane at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to the prosecutor’s office.
