EAST ORANGE, N.J. (PIX11) — A New Jersey teacher was shot and killed by the father of her child in front of her East Orange home Friday night, police said.
Laterna May, 27, and 42-year-old Andre L. Higgs were arguing in front of May’s home in the 100 block of Tremont Avenue when she flagged down a police officer patrolling the area.
When the officer approached the couple, Higgs shot May, which prompted the officer to then shoot Higgs, the Essex County prosecutor said.
Higgs was transported to University Hospital. May was pronounced dead at the scene. She is a teacher at Pride Academy in East Orange.
The investigation is ongoing.
