OLD BRIDGE, N.J. — Three people were killed in a head-on collision in Old Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m., Tuesday near Route 516 involving two cars.

According to Lt. Schlueter of the Old Bridge Police department, a 45-year-old man from Howell was heading south on Route 9 when his car, a Ford Escape, crossed into the northbound lanes.

The SUV then hit a Honda Accord, being driven by a 37-year-old woman from Freehold.

Both drivers and a rear seat passenger in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the Honda were rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending family notification.

It’s unknown why the driver of the Ford crossed into oncoming traffic.

Old Bridge Police and the Middlesex Prosecutor are investigating the crash.
