JERSEY CITY, N.J. (PIX11) — Three people were killed and three others were injured in a head-on crash in Jersey City early Monday morning, officials said.
The two-vehicle collision happened on Paterson Plank Road, south of Congress Street, around 12:45 a.m., according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. A BMW SUV and a Kia sedan crashed head-on, authorities said.
The driver of the Kia and two passengers in the BMW were killed in the collision, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
The driver of the Kia who died was identified as 26-year-old Jersey City resident Dylan Weidenfeld. The identifies of the two other victims who died — a male and a female — haven’t been released.
A 19-year-old woman who was a passenger in the BMW was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash, authorities said.
The 23-year-old driver of the BMW and a 23-year-old woman who was riding in the front seat both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. Both are Jersey City residents, authorities said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation. Some people who live in the area said they see speeding and careless driving all too often on the stretch of road where the deadly crash occurred.
