PISCATAWAY, N.J. — One passenger is dead and at least two others hosptialized after a serious crash in Interstate 287 in New Jersey early Thursday, state police said.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 3:35 a.m., along the highway in Piscataway, when a Toyota Rav4 driving south overturned and ran off the right side of the road, crashing into several trees.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Two other passengers were also rushed to a nearby hospital, one listed in critical condition and the other in serious condition, police said.

The condition of the vehicle’s driver is not known at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, state police said.
