VIDEO: Woman violently mugged for her purse on Lower East Side

LOWER EAST SIDE (PIX11) — Police are looking for a man who violently mugged a woman for her purse on the Lower East Side last month.

The 32-year-old victim was walking in the vicinity of Essex and Hester streets Jan. 24 at about 4:18 a.m. when the suspect approached her from behind and shoved her to the ground. Surveillance video shows the victim struggling with her attacker, who rips away her purse, which contained her cell phone, debit and credit cards and crash. The suspect fled on foot and the woman refused medical attention.

The suspect is described as a tall dark-skinned male wearing a green snorkel jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
