NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Police in New Jersey cleared a suspicious package at Rutgers University after an investigation Monday morning.

A suspicious package was reported at the Douglass Parking Deck around 8 a.m., according to the university. The parking area was closed off while police investigated for about two hours.

Police in New York also examined – and then cleared – a suspicious package at the Cypress Hills J-train stop in Brooklyn earlier Monday. It was discarded property.

Service had been skipping the Cypress Hills station, but has now resumed as normal

Earlier Monday, NYPD investigated a suspicious package spotted near Union Square. It was determined to be a toolbox left on the sidewalk, according to NYPD.

It was discovered in the vicinity of Broadway and 13th Street, police said shortly before 6:30 a.m.

Several fire trucks and ambulances were standing by as officials investigated.

By 7 a.m. investigators had identified the suspicious package as a toolbox and determined it to be safe.
