Steel panels fall from midtown hotel, crash onto parked cars

MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN — Crews are checking the stability of steel panels on the outside of a midtown hotel Monday morning after two of those panels fell and landed on cars parked below, officials said.

It happened at the Sheraton New York hotel in midtown.

Police said debris, possibly from the 46th floor, fell from the hotel at 811 Seventh Ave. and landed on two parked cars. Two 4×8-foot steel panels tumbled to the ground, officials said.

Streets are closed between 52nd and 54th streets on Seventh Avenue, which will remain closed through the morning rush hour.

No was hurt was by the falling debris.
