CHELSEA, Manhattan — Subway service at 23rd and 28th Street has resumed following closures after the Saturday explosion in Chelsea, the MTA said.
The 1, E and F-trains had been skipping the stations. The NE stairway at 23rd Street remains closed and the MTA is advising commuters to use the SE stairway instead.
“We will not allow these types of people and these types of threats disrupt our life in New York,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “Feel safe. Everything that needs to be done is being done, and more. And we’re going to enjoy to New York and we’re going to go back to work tomorrow just like we do on any Monday morning.”
The Chelsea explosion, which occurred in front of 135 W. 23rd St. between Sixth and Seventh avenues, injured 29 people — all of whom were released from the hospital by Sunday morning.
M5, M7, M23 and X1 buses are detoured in both directions due to ongoing police investigations:
- M5 and M7 Northbound: Via 6 Av, left on 14 St, right on 8 Av, right on 34 St, left on 6 Av and regular route.
- M23 Eastbound: Via 23 St, right on 9 Av, left on 14 St, left on 4 Av, right on 23 St and regular route.
- M23 Westbound: Via 23 St, right on Madison Av, left on 34 St, left on 9 Av, right on 23 St and regular route.
- X1 Manhattan Bound: Via 6 Av, left on 14 St, right on 8 Av, right on 34 St, left on 6 Av and regular route.
Bus and train service in New Jersey resumed with delays as of 5:30 a.m. following the explosion of one of five devices inside a suspicious package near the Elizabeth, N.J. train station.
Service was suspended late Sunday night suspension after one of the devices exploded when the bomb squad was trying to disarm it. No one was injured in the explosion.
“Our customers are safe and trains have been brought into stations to allow passengers to disembark and seek alternate transportation,” said Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz. ” Amtrak apologizes for the inconvenience and will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Commuters on the North East Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line should expect delays and service changes as the investigation continues.
PATH trains resumed normal service on all lines this morning, but are bypassing 23rd St. until further notice. The service will cross honor New Jersey Transit passengers at NWK, HOB, WTC and 33rd Street stations.
