UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan — A man and woman were found dead in a basement apartment on the Upper West Side Monday night, a police spokesperson said.

Police responded just after 7 p.m. to a 911 call of a person shot in the building on West 87th Street, between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive.

Responding officers discovered a man, 72, and woman, 50, both unconscious and unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

EMS responded and pronounced both victims dead.

Authorities said the man and woman were found by a boy who police identified as the son of one or perhaps both of the victims.

Officials did not identify either victim or their relationship.

The incident is being investigated as a domestic murder-suicide, the NYPD said Monday night.
