EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) — A man died after he was shot in the head in Manhattan Tuesday, police said.
The 26-year-old victim was shot near East 123rd Street and Lexington Avenue in East Harlem around 4:20 p.m., according to the NYPD.
The man was pronounced dead at a hospital. His identity hasn’t been released.
No arrests have been made. Additional information about the shooting wasn’t available from police.
New York City residents and community leaders have spoken out about the recent spike in headline-grabbing shootings, both in the subway system and on the streets.
“The summer is coming, and it’s going to be a scary summer,” NYPD Chaplain Robert Rice said.
Iesha Sekou, the CEO and founder of the anti-violence organization Street Corner Resources, spoke at a rally in front of a Harlem smoke shop where a man was shot and killed Sunday night.
“No one should have to die inside of a store in front of people,” Sekou said.
The suspect in that shooting, identified as 21-year-old Messiah Nantwi, is also accused of fatally shooting another man in Harlem on Saturday.
“How have we normalized the violence against our brothers? How can we look in a brother’s eye and take his life? For a disagreement,” Mysonne, a community activist, said at the rally.
