Fire blazes, smoke billows on Midtown street

A fire in a private garbage truck sent smoke billowing into the sky in Manhattan Wednesday afternoon.

The fire is not suspicious at this time. It is at 45th Street and Fifth Avenue.

People in the area reported hearing an “explosion,” but a spokesman for the city said there was no explosion.

The FDNY is currently on scene.

Garbage was visible in the street after the fire.
