HARLEM, Manhattan — Wearing a Santa hat and a big smile, Korey Wise of the Exonerated 5 brought holiday cheer to the Lehman Houses in Harlem Monday, surprising dozens of children with the opportunity to pick out a brand new toy, just in time for Christmas.

Wise told PIX11 he jumped at the opportunity so he could give “back to my old community where I used to hang out.”

The toy giveaway was organized by The Migdol Family Foundation.

“We found that giving is the best blessing you can have,” founder Jerry Migdol said.

Many of the families were just as excited to meet Wise as they were to receive a new gift. Wise was also moved by the afternoon.

“It makes me want to cry. It gets emotional,” he said.

The story of The Exonerated 5, who were once known as The Central Park 5, was in the forefront in 2019 after the Netflix series, When They See Us.

Actor Jharrel Jerome won an Emmy for his portrayal of wise.
