MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 4-month-old migrant girl died after she was found unconscious at a New York City hotel Thursday, according to law enforcement sources.
Police responded to the Stewart Hotel at 371 Seventh Ave. in Manhattan after receiving a 911 call around 7:30 a.m., according to the NYPD.
The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. There were no immediate signs of criminality.
Part of the Stewart Hotel is being used as a shelter for asylum seekers, according to the NYPD. The girl’s family are migrants and have been in New York City for six months, police sources said.
The medical examiner will determine the baby’s cause of death. The Administration for Children’s Services is investigating as well.
“The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority. We are investigating this case with NYPD.”
