Frank Castro, 47, is accused of possessing child pornography. (Nassau County DA)

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — A former New York Police Department officer was arrested Tuesday for allegedly possessing child pornography.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said Frank Castro, 47, of East Meadow, was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of promoting a sexual performance and two counts of possessing a sexual performance of a child.

“Innocent children are the victims of horrific sexual exploitation to produce the pornography that this defendant is accused of possessing,” said DA Singas. “Anyone trafficking child pornography in Nassau County should expect law enforcement to show up at their door.”

According to Singas, investigators in her office witnessed an individual possessing multiple images of child pornography in March and April of 2016. Investigators tracked the photos back to Castro’s home, seizing the evidence Tuesday.

Castro, a retired NYPD officer, currently works as a security contractor. He was forced to surrender his pistol license.

Bail was set at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash.

Castro was represented by Legal Aid at arraignment.

He will appear in court again on Friday.

If convicted of the top count, Castro faces up to seven years in prison.
