BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — Police arrested a 42-year-old Long Island man late Thursday night for stabbing a 39-year-old man with a machete.

Santos Torres allegedly stabbed Jose Hernandez with the machete around 11:30 p.m. in front of a Brentwood home on Bradley Street near Nimitz Avenue, police said. Hernandez was rushed to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in serious condition.

Torres is the ex-boyfriend of the woman Hernandez is currently dating, police said.

Police charged Torres with first-degree assault in the stabbing, officials said. Torres was held by police overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
