LONG ISLAND — The Nassau Coliseum was the site of a mega Thanksgiving holiday food distribution event Monday.

Organizers hoped to ease the financial burden for thousands of families on Long Island.

Financially strapped residents waited hours to receive the Thanksgiving dinner.

Island Harvest said that since March 9, it has helped over 400,000 Long Island families, which is a 100% increase from same time last year.
