LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Police arrested 105 people on Long Island over the holiday weekend, officials say.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said in a statement Tuesday that between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Tuesday,  police made 52 driving while intoxicated arrests.

Police in Suffolk County made 53 arrests for DWI and driving under the influence between 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. They also made one arrest for boating while intoxicated.

The additional patrols out during the holiday weekend were due in part by the New York State Grant “STOP DWI” campaign.

Newsday reports that in 2015 Nassau police made 18 DWI arrests while Suffolk made 44 arrests and arrested one person for boating while intoxicated.
