Around noon, and another 4 miles southwest, officials responded to a fire at an auto body shop on Oak Drive, Syosset police said. At least seven vehicles appeared to have been badly damaged in the fire.

The three fires do not appear to be connected, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Sagamore Hill was home to former President Theodore Roosevelt. It is not open to visitors during the federal government shutdown that began at midnight Friday, and all buildings are closed, according to its website.

The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory houses biomedical research and education.
