Lanes have been closed. The fire comes as drivers are already dealing with closures near the Lincoln because of planned road work.

All lanes were initially closed in North Bergen, but the left lane has been reopened, according to the Department of Transportation.  Commuters are advised to follow a detour or use an alternate route.

“One of the scariest things I’ve ever seen… a bus being completely engulfed by flames and literally melting from the heat,” one man wrote on Twitter. “Drove past this en route to the Lincoln Tunnel about an hour ago. Could feel the heat inside our taxi as we drove by.”

It is not clear what caused the bus to catch on fire. No additional information was immediately available.
