CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn — Members of the NYPD and FDNY found themselves in a brawl during a charity football game in Coney Island Sunday.

This isn’t the first brawl. The battles date back to the 1980s, nearly every single year the two departments get together.

The NYPD released a statement addressing the fight during the charity game:

“Football is a competitive sport whether it is the NFL Super Bowl or the annual NYPD-FDNY Challenge. It is part of the spirit of the sport, but it all ends on the field.”

At the end of the game, all players did shake hands as they walked off the fields.

The proceeds went to the NYPD Widows’ & Children’s Fund and FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation.
