BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn — A 12-year-old boy was shot in Brooklyn Saturday night, police said.

Fire officials said the shooting took place around 8:50 p.m. The victim was walking down the street as two groups were fighting and shots rang out on Malcolm X Boulevard, according to police.

The boy tried to duck under cars to avoid the gunfire when he realized he’d been shot in the chest, police said.

Investigators do not believe he was the intended target of the shooting, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

No arrests had been made, as of Saturday night.

Editor’s note: Police initially said the shooting was a drive-by, however, investigators later determined it was not.
